Overview:
This scholarship is awarded in memory of Jacqueline Diane Halladay (1959-1981), in honor of her significant contributions to the field of recreation and parks. Jacqueline’s dedication is commemorated through her service on Alberta Recreation & Parks Association (ARPA)'s Board of Directors from 1979-1980 and her pivotal role in establishing the Student Standing Committee.
By emphasizing the importance of hands-on involvement in recreation and parks services, this scholarship aims to support and encourage students who embody Jacqui's spirit of dedication and service to the community.
Applicants should have a passion for enhancing recreational opportunities and park services, as evidenced by their engagement in activities such as volunteering, internships, part-time employment, coursework, and participation in ARPA initiatives.
Purpose:
The Halladay Memorial Scholarship recognizes an undergraduate student enrolled in any program related to recreation and parks. Eligible candidates are those who have demonstrated a commitment to contributing to recreation and/or parks services through volunteer activities, work experience, studies, and active involvement with ARPA.

Eligibility:
To receive this scholarship, you must also meet all of these eligibility criteria:
- Currently enrolled in full-time undergraduate studies, with a preference given to those with a focus in the recreation and parks sector. Requirements for high school transcript marks will vary.
- Full-time post secondary studies is defined as being registered in the minimum equivalent of nine credit units per semester from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Undergraduate studies can include:
- Be an Alberta resident
- Active Involvement in Alberta Recreation & Parks Association (ARPA)
If the recipient is a graduating student, the scholarship portion of the Award will be paid upon evidence of graduation. If the recipient is a continuing student, the scholarship funds will be paid on evidence of continuing full-time registration in the program of study.

This may include GPA, class rank, standardized test scores, and academic accomplishments in relevant fields of study
- Work and/or Volunteer Experience: Demonstrated experience working or volunteering in roles that directly involve recreational and/or parks services or support within the sector. This could include positions such as Youth program coordinator or camp counselor, Conservation or environmental stewardship volunteer, park management assistant or similar roles.
- Related Coursework: Completion of coursework directly related to the field of recreation, parks, and related areas. This may include courses in environmental science, outdoor recreation management, community development, leisure studies, conservation biology, or related fields
- Future Plans: Clear articulation of future goals and plans related to the field of recreation and parks. This may include pursuing further education, engaging in research or advocacy, or working in professional roles dedicated to enhancing recreational opportunities and environmental stewardship within parks and outdoor spaces.
